Jim McGreevey has been a good governor

It is a shame that Governor McGreevey feels forced to resign, or rather, it is perhaps better to say that it is a shame that he has made his sexual orientation a focus among the reasons he has chosen to resign. Obviously being gay does not make him a less effective governor, but putting friends on the state payroll in positions they are not qualified to fill does indeed make him a less effective governor. This is all beginning to look like a patronage scandal, something New Jerseyans are all too familiar with.

Today's news reports that some well-heeled business leaders are willing to bankroll a Joe Piscopo candidacy for governor of New Jersey. You can't find many people who are more Jersey than Joe Piscopo, but somehow I believe that the late-night talk show hosts are behind this candidacy.
