Science is not a democracy

Many Americans apparently believe that because they want "creationism" taught in their local schools that it should be taught, even if they concede that it is quackery posing as science. And I suppose that if a majority of the people preferred the sum of 2+2 to be 5 rather than 4 then we should be teaching that in the schools as well. Stories such as this one in Salon.com make me truly wonder why anyone tries to improve things in this country. If this is what the electorate wants, then maybe we should just stop resisting their will.

If it is elitism to believe that people should have to accept evolution as a fact, then I am an elitist. Just because an idea isn't popular doesn't mean it isn't right.
